Minister Crevits visits Denis-Plants

"An example of energy saving and sustainable water management", was the verdict during the visit of Minister of Agriculture and Food Hilde Crevits to our customer Denis-Plants from Beervelde on 4 April.

Ornamental plant sector groans under energy prices

Gas and electricity are more expensive than ever. Let those be two indispensable sources of energy for greenhouse cultivation. Companies that see their energy contract expire soon risk having to pay up to three times more. And then transport and supplies such as peat and plastic have also become more expensive.

Therefore, since the end of March, greenhouse horticulture companies that invest in energy-saving measures in existing greenhouses can count on increased government support. For example, investments in energy screens in greenhouses (to cool in summer and limit heat loss in winter) can now count on 40% support instead of 30%.

Sustainable water management

In the coming years, not only the conscious use of energy will become more important than ever, but also the use of water. In this respect, Denis-Plants has been working since 2018 with a fully closed water circulation system. The rainwater collected is therefore continuously reused internally, without affecting the surface and groundwater.

Innovative green walls

During her visit, the minister called Denis-Plants an example of innovative and sustainable entrepreneurship. The company grows plants for innovative, vertical green walls (so-called 'Green Living Walls'). These help to slow down the heat island effect in cities, drain the rainwater in a delayed manner, and create a pleasant green environment.
